Community-led solutions for mothers, children and families in some of East Africa’s hardest-to-reach
border and displacement communities.
EKISIL works alongside communities affected by displacement, insecurity, remoteness and limited
access to essential services. Through locally led programs and our Solar Digital SafeHubs, we bring
practical, integrated support closer to the people who need it.
Through SafeHub-based services, community outreach, parenting and early childhood activities,
maternal and child-health interventions, psychosocial support, digital access and mobile/community
activities, each Solar Digital SafeHub extends integrated support to thousands of mothers, caregivers
and children every year.
One locally managed platform. Multiple forms of support. Built for communities conventional systems
struggle to reach.
EKISIL is the innovator of the Solar Digital SafeHub model – a community-led, solar-powered platform
that brings integrated support closer to mothers, children and families in remote, fragile and
displacement-affected settings.
SafeHubs connect communities to maternal and child health support, parenting and early childhood
development, psychosocial wellbeing, digital access and learning, safe community connection, referral
pathways and opportunities that strengthen household resilience.
In fragile communities, mothers often carry multiple responsibilities at once: caring for children,
navigating healthcare, protecting their families, rebuilding stability and sustaining household
livelihoods.
Yet mothers are also among the strongest sources of resilience within their communities.
Mothers are not only beneficiaries. They are caregivers, community leaders, decision-makers and
partners in building safer and more resilient families.
A mother facing displacement may also be navigating trauma, interrupted healthcare, food insecurity,
loss of income, limited connectivity and the responsibility of caring for young children.
In remote border communities, the nearest service may be many kilometres away – or may not exist at
all.
EKISIL responds by bringing connected support closer to communities rather than expecting families to
navigate fragmented systems alone.

From refugee and displacement communities in Kakuma and Kalobeyei, to remote communities around
Lowarengak and the Ilemi borderlands, and communities along the Kenya-Ethiopia border and Southern
Ethiopia, EKISIL works in environments where geography itself can become a barrier to essential
support.
We build from within these communities – working with local leaders, mothers, facilitators and
institutions to develop solutions that fit realities on the ground.
In 2026, EKISIL received international recognition through the Good Start Challenge for the potential of
its community-led approach to strengthen support for parents and young children in fragile settings.
Solutions built close to people can travel far.
